Two things: a HUGE announcement and a technique you need to master

In my last note to you, I shared that I had started a new position and made some changes in my day job. Those changes were big and full of huge learning opportunities--on the job, personally, and it has really got me thinking. It got me thinking about what I want my life to be. It got me thinking about where my life was going and where I had been putting it on hold...waiting for the BIG dream and the things I want to just happen. I saw that I was on a path-- a path that didn't want to be on. I saw that I was a path to do the 9-to-5 forever and that is not what I want. I realized, really realized, how I was not showing up for what I want my life to be, what I want to do, and how I want to live. Things don't just happen. YOU have to make them happen. You have to show up. I know you have been following me awhile and you know how always talk about doing your BIG work and doing the big scary thing...about doing the thing that scares you AND that makes you excited-- BOTH at the same time. WELL NOW IT IS TIME FOR ME TO START WALKING MY TALK. SO the BIG announcement! My loves have always been food, animals, nature, trees, discovery, adventure, travel, and cooking. I also know that things are the amazing ways to reconnect to yourself, to drop into yourself, to remember who you are and what you love. To feel alive in your body when you dig into the earth, when you take a bite from a tender leaf right in the garden, when you experience where your food comes from and all the people and [...]

put your hands together and tell me what you are grateful for

I've been thinking about prayer a bunch lately.  Who does it?  Why?  How?  Should I be doing it?  Do I actually do it and not recognize it as such? Is it only for 'religious' people? Do you only pray to God with a capital "G"? What's the purpose? So many questions, right? I do know there are different types of prayer.  There's what I would call 'ritual' prayer.  Those memorized prayers that everyone does for a specific need or purpose.  There's the just-before-bed-on-your-knees prayer.  There's the blessing of the food before dinner prayer.  There are a litany of these everyday and special occasion prayers.  Mass, Hail Mary's, baptism, last rites, Passover, sacrament, etc. BUT the kinda prayer that I've been curious about is the one that comes from my inner essence (my inner drop) and is directed at--what??  Where is it going?  Why do it? It's the kinda prayer that solidifies and puts to order the challenges, wishes, needs, and requests that just kinda need a space to go. I'm hashing this out in my spirit right now.  Not because I'm fighting it, but because I want to discover more about it and how we frail little humans use it and need it. I'm coming across many podcasts, books, and speakers that weave their prayers into all they do and they speak about it so wonderfully. It really hits me when they share their prayers.  I feel the truth of it...of their belief and knowing of it to be powerful and necessary. I am in total L O V E with Anne Lamott.  Saint Anne, as I recently heard her called.  I know it is true.  Such wisdom and so witty with words.  Her book of the only 3 prayers you ever need: Help, Thanks, and Wow.  Says it all, [...]

a pinch of this

{previously published in Sibyl Magazine  (for the Spirit & Soul of Women) May 2016} Sometimes in the act of creating our lives it looks like a big chaotic mess. Other times we feel that our actions on what we add and what we take out are very deliberate. And then there are those times where you feel like nothing is happening. I read tarot cards for others and for myself for personal development and insight. It’s super interesting for me to look at what yearly cycle I’m in (according to the numerology of the Major Arcana). It can be helpful in learning how to navigate and plan as I go through the year. Last year was a Chariot year and this year is an Adjustment year for me. Chariot years are all about movement while keeping your calm center. That was definitely true for me. I took lots of actions to expand my growth and potential both personally and in my business. This year is an Adjustment year-it’s about bringing in all that you activated the previous year in practical real ways in your daily life. All while coming back to balance and integrating the new skills and ways of being. This can come down to the subtle, as in how I think about things, how I communicate or in concrete ways as in what habits to release and which ones to nourish.   The Adjustment year is one of fine tuning. A pinch of this- a bit more of that or just take that out. The sometimes overwhelming chaos of the Chariot year is coming into wholeness and form. I can see what it is all distilling down to and what actions to take to fully realize the new insights, actions and learning.   This mix (creation) of your [...]

what to do when nothing looks rosy

Have you been feeling it too? It’s like all the light has dimmed in my little world and it is making me cranky and feeling down. Argh! Is it because Mercury (and like a jillion other planets-read more about the astrology here) are in retrograde this month? Is it the extra anxiety around putting myself out there and desiring to go BIGGER? Is it the sudden death of a friend? Is it the extra sensitivity I’m feeling…seemingly around all the most vulnerable and delicate parts of myself? It is like I’m just tired of all the wanting and nothing coming in… (the little drop inside just asked me, “is this true?” I answer, “NO, just discouraged a bit.”) No, No and NO! It is not true. I don’t desire to continue to play small and not put myself out there. I know that all the internal questioning and integration of what’s going on both in the world and in me will help me grow stronger. (Retrogrades are a time to look internally and get insight.) How do I know this? Because, Dear One, I am an active participant in creating my luscious life. No matter how beat up, discouraged, cranky and disappointed I feel right now, I know that I have tools to help me learn from the challenges that are coming up. The jumble and chaos of life can try to throw you off your game. I say there is always a lesson from the chaos and when you don’t let it dismantle your strength, courage and spirit you can see clearly what is going on externally and not have it crush you. Your strong center and personal energy is your super power. When I feel like nothing is working, nothing is going my way, when I make a [...]

At the Gate of the Solstice

Nature is not caught up in all the hustle & bustle that happens at this time of the year...she has gone quiet, deep & restful.  The stark beauty of winter has Her stripped bare.  Her strength, beauty & wisdom is embraced in the arms of the earth where She's renewing, designing & gathering Herself for the anticipation of all the new that is coming. You too can take a moment at the Solstice to go deep & sit with your inner self in quiet wisdom of the stark winter.  It is the beginning of the new cycle.  It's where we begin to gather the energies for our next cycle.  In this quiet time we begin to birth it. I love to gather with close friends on the glittering evening of the Winter Solstice around the fire & light a candle as I reflect on the retreating year & all the potentials of the coming one.  Sometimes I write lists of what I want to release, renew & embrace on this night.  In a few weeks more I will start to make a more specific plans for the coming year. The 2015 Solstice is on Monday December 21 at 8:48pm (Pacific Daylight Time) or Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 04:49 UTC.  And for many of you reading this it may be the Summer Solstice if you are in the Southern Hemisphere.  But for me, here in the lush moist landscape of the Pacific Northwest it is definitely the Winter Solstice.  (I find it always interesting the yin & yang nature of our World.) At the about 1o minutes before & after the specific time, I intend to sit in reflection & offer to sync my own personal cycle with the inherent natural rhythms of our Mother Gaia.  I will ask that [...]

5 simple yet powerful tools to invite lusciousness in your life

Is your life as luscious as you'd love it to be? By luscious, I mean juicy, rich, exciting, inspiring... the kind of life that feeds you on all levels of your being physical-mental-emotional-spiritual Right now you're probably experiencing some sort of over-drive in one of these areas. Possibly you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed by your work OR you can't stop worrying that hugely important business meeting that will provide your next step in growth OR you feel disconnected from the bigger picture of your life...you're lost in the everyday distractions and blah, blah, blah OR you are challenged by having less energy and drive in your body. Dear ones! Here's some techniques I have used in the past to ignite some momentum and get you out of THAT space that is sucking the sweet soul out of you and into a space that is LUSCIOUS! You probably won't want to try to do all of them at once...that would be too overwhelming.  Read through and pick one that excites you-one that you know you will do for 13 minutes every morning. 1.  Begin each morning by writing a list of 5-7 things, people, foods, flowers, pillows-whatever! that you are thankful for and appreciate in your world. "Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others." -Cicero This simple act will begin to shift your energy and the way you see things.  You'll begin to make dynamic choices that bring more juiciness in.  Powerful.  Easy.  Do it. 2.  You know that I L-O-V-E working with oracle decks and tarot cards.  Why?  Let me tell ya.  They instantly drop me in to what is going on inside.  This allows me to connect with that space inside of me and to see the bigger picture.  Then look [...]

I have a case of the ‘Yeah, buts…’

I used to have this teacher and whenever a student replied to her suggestion with a, "Yeah, but..." she would quickly interject (every single dang time)--"yeah-buts live in yungles."  Yes, yungles, not jungles.   I still remember this and I think this was my second or third grade teacher.  She also had a love of providing ample food during class in the form of peanut butter on bread.  Maybe that is why I remember her. But let's get on with my yeah, buts... I found myself thinking about my writing.  I was reflecting on all the ways it could be better.  I was thinking about all the mistakes in past notes and posts and well, everywhere...and on and on this crazy tape in my head wanted to go.  It even went to comparing my stuff to other bloggers, famous authors and the lyrics of Boy George. Humpf! I love the way some writers can make their words roll together in such a way that liquid magic drips right off the page. But I wasn't thinking mine could and was telling myself every which way they weren't. That judging and comparing was rolling right along. It lead into other ideas and thoughts and then I started the 'Yeah, buts...' BUT this time...and this is HUGE, guys...I stopped them.  I realized I was shutting down possibility, momentum, growth and everything before it even had a chance.   I stopped them.  And a tarot card popped into head.  The seven of swords, called 'futility.' Futility is what stops you before you start.  Of your own creation. Sabotaging yourself. Take a look at the card.  See the central sword and around it are all these other swords taking a chink out of it, making cracks, making it weak.  That central sword is your idea, your plan or [...]
